HDMI CEC Hack?

Just added a 55" flat screen and I'm back to HDMI CEC issues with the
Cox Cable Box (Cisco Explorer 8642HDC).

The Cox Box does not send a CEC handshake to turn on down stream
components.

Does anyone know of a hack where I could build something to send a
fake CEC handshake down the HDMI cable?

I love to cook with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.

HDMI is designed to prevent 'hacks' - sorry.
