OT but technical question

As I've learned that there's a lot of good techical experience in this group.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 2595 series GPS. The power outlet in my car is inside the
center console, so the power cable for the GPS just barely makes it from the
window where the unit is mounted with a suction mount, to the center console. It
also seems to be the reason my GPS won't stay on the windshield. The cable keeps
pulling it off. I have no other places to plug it in, except the back seat which
is even farther away. I called Garmin and asked if they knew if using an
automotive extension cord (if one even exists) would adversely affect the
traffic receiver which I believe is part of the original cable. They didn't
know. They had no answer for me. So much for "tech support". Anyone here know if
this would work or not? Also, do I need any kind of heavy duty cable? Thanks.

Here are some newsgroups that might interest you:

alt.satellite.gps
alt.satellite.gps.garmin
alt.satellite.gps.magellan
alt.satellite.gps.tomtom

I have made the assumption that you didn't multipost to any of those
groups, since that is deprecated.

OK, you did multipost. I'm sorry you make that error.

Try to Google for multipost versus crosspost so you can find out why
crossposting is better (also, it's much kinder to other newsgroup
denizens).

I have a car cord that plugs in to the lighter/power point and has
three female sockets on the other end of a six foot cord (I believe).
It works fine. It also has another fuse in the male end. I think I got
it at Walmart or Meijer, but I have seen simular ones at auto parts
stores.

Agree: just get one at an autoparts store and do not get the 'cheepest'
as it might have aluminum wires!
