Before I even try, I would like to find out the answer to one question
to make it worth while.
This app is supposed to be able to control the WDTV player with an
Iphone. The feature that would make it worth trying is if you can use
the keyboard on the Iphone instead of hunting and pecking with the
arrow keys for a keyboard.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wd-tv-remote/id488301648?mt=8
It looks like the app would work exactly the same way as the remote.
If that is true, then there would be no keyboard features. I would
still have to enter search terms by pecking on a keyboard that only
has a cursor to type the letters/numbers.

Anyone tried one of these?

1. It's free. Why don't you try it yourself? You could even follow up
here with a report telling us how it worked.

2. The third picture in the iTunes view shows a touch keyboard...

Because it is not my phone or my TV I want to try this on. I wanted
to suggest it to someone else. I lied about it being me to simplify
the question. I don't know why I get on a world wide forum and lie
like I do. :)

I went back to look at the link I provided and I only see two
screenshots. I do not see a touch keyboard.

Trying for anonymity? :-)

Sometimes what you did simplifies things, e.g., avoids unnecessary
explanations, but this seems to have been an exception. Anyway, your
friend could try it for himself/herself. They'd have to anyway, since
YMMV (for some value of Y) will apply.

If you have iTunes on your computer, go to the iTunes store by
following the link on the site you pointed to. I *did* say the iTunes
view in my first reply...
