WMYD 20.2 added the subchannel a few days ago, a 480i 16:9. It
replaces a 16:9 simulcast. According to WP, it's the successor to NBC
Weather Plus, but WMYD is not an affiliate.

Wow, and this is progress? Get cable and see all the old garbage and pay for it.

Years ago in this newsgroup, I predicted that the subchannels would be
used exactly like this.

Know-it-all fanbois violently disagreed, ridiculing the very idea. That
would never happen, they said. There's no money in that, they said.

No doubt they said all this from their moms' basements.

It's cheap programming. I have no idea if there's any money in it.

There's value in it somewhere, according to the people who pay the bills
to keep these subchannels and these subchannel-oriented networks going.

The fanbois 15 years ago wanted so badly to hang on to the idea that
everything would be HD, that SD was by definition dead and buried. They
just had zero business sense.

To the geneyoous resurrecting a long-dead thread:

The OP was discussing a BROADCAST channel, not cable. You don't pay for it
at all if you stick up an antenna. You could tell it's broadcast 'cuz
of the call sign, a requirement of broadcast television.
