We have a Samsung smart TV recently purchased. Worked fine until a software
up date then the TV turned to sh|t.

Picture are find but the UI and internet software performance are to be kind
less than stellar. The mother board has been changed several times. Part
of the exhibited problem networking dump periodically as does all
subscription data to service like Hulu/netflez and web browsers. Samsung
net working data is also lost but we're still able to access the network
with computers and smart phones.

Samsung has been telling use we're the only ones with this problem. Is this
true or more B* from Samsung? Any other ideas on a possible fix would be
appreciated

99.99999999999999999999999999999% chance Samsung is feeding you a line. There
is no such thing as good support any more :(

Depending on how recent the purchase was and if it was on credit card, you
might be able to simply dispute the charges on the credit card. I find this
to be the simplest fix.

I would not own a smart tv. Instead I would have a smart bluray player
or something like a WD Live media player. These units are cheap and
can be aeasily replace as technology changes.

You were able to get through to samsung support? That is better than
I have been able to do over the past few years.

I have a small Samsung that has a bunch of annoying software problems,
and no way to contact Samsung to see if there are software fixes - the
web site refuses to recognize the model number, and messages sent to them
using similar model numbers get no answer at all -- simply ignored.

(1) Time displays (and time related program info) are often an hour
off - probably a result of bad daylight saving time processing
(2) We have a subchannel that is running 480i in 16:9 - our non-samsung
sets get it right. The Samsung shows it in 4:3. If we set it to
16:9, the other 4:3 stuff is also stretched
(3) The samsung has no way to add/delete channels individually - just a
total replacement scan. Fortunately it is not on an antenna with a
rotor - it would be impossible to add channels not seen on the scan.
Even so, some duplicates cause it confusion.

From your comments, it sounds like a software update could be worse than
the current condition.

After 3 repair attempts Samsung offered to replace the TV WITH A LESSER
model. They also kinda sorta confessed to ongoing problems with update
software. It seems the updates have to do with (profit center) contracts
between Samsung and the app providers to accommodate changes made by the app
providers.

I pressed and was told that the upgraded software rarely had anything to do
with the Samsung hardware/software/UI for the equipment owner...

The recommendations to use a not so smart TV and decent accessories seems to
be the way to go.
