OLED UHDTV anyone?

Sounds good to me.

"LG continues to make OLED statements with curved and Ultra HD OLED displays."

"The highlight promises to be what LG calls the largest curved OLED Ultra HD
set, which at 77 inches also displays Ultra HD 3D. That display and new 55-inch
and 65-inch curved OLED Ultra HD models brought to market in 2014 will use LG's
new Smart TV with functionality based on WebOS, the rights to which the company
acquired from HP early last year."

"Another new model is a 55-inch flat Gallery OLED display with an art frame
design that incorporates a 100-watt speaker system. It can display paintings or
photos when not being used (price and availability of LG's OLEDs will be
announced at CES)."

No problem as long as you place the midpoint between your eyes exactly
on the axis of the curve.

That was my first thought when I saw the announcement of the curved
set...

Which is a long-winded way of saying that I completely agree with you
:-)

We saw a Samsung curved OLED at Best Buy / Magnolia - $9K. They had so much 'enhancement' (sharpness jacked up) it looked rather poor. The salesman told me it was the best picture I've seen.

I do video for a living and was part of the design team on an HD flying spot telecine. When using 70mm film on the machine it was stunning. I HAVE seen better.

I have no idea why you'd want a curved screen. Is it just because the curve is the opposite of a Trinitron? Or maybe someone is starting a fashion trend.

"WIDE IS BETTER!" "ULTRA-WIDE IS EVEN BETTER!" "CURVED IS EVEN BETTER!"

Lemmings that are consumers will have manufacturers doing all sorts of
crazy things.

The general office, for example, suffers from the fact that consumers
think they want wide and ultrawide (that is, ultra-short) monitors.

I'm waiting for the one pixel tall, 25 foot wide screen. Because, as
you know, wider is better.

If the vast majority of programming was 1-pixel by 25', then the above
monitor might find its way into existence. Otherwise, it's just so much
hot air, as usual. Gee, 16:9 screens for 16:9 programming. How horrible.

Excellent. You take an article praising 21:9 monitors for computer use,
and morph it into a TV display argument. Bravo! You haven't lost your
touch. {Dell's inclusion in the article should have been your first clue.}

Fact is, the number of 21:9 TV displays on the market is _____, nearly
a year after your above touted article.

And you made me think about how neat a hemispherical or larger dome of
a screen would make a simulator a lot more realistic than the current
mess of flat panels scattered all around the trainee.

It's your idea, so patent it :-)

OK, I'll do it - but only so I can sneak into Mary Beth's house without

"You" in American English is often used as a generic pronoun, similar
to the usage of "man" in German or "on" in French, or even "one" in
British English.

Well of course that is what the "salesman" told you. Time to start
pushing a new product. I was out of state visiting my family last month
and my brother wanted to buy a bigger TV. He has a Vizio 42" 1080 LCD.

He asked me what I thought he should get and I said the 51" 720 Samsung
plasma that Best But was selling for $500.00. So when we went to BB to
look at it, it was sitting at the end of the shelves with the other
plasmas (all 2 of them - Panasonic and LG). Not only were they at the
far end of the shelves, they had a light on in that area. The ONLY light
that was on. So all of the plasmas looked like shit in the store.

I told him not to worry about it. Buy it, bring it home and if you don't
like it take it back. Ended up getting an open box TV for $420.00. Took
it home, hooked it up, set the picture settings and it looks awesome.

Blows his Vizio away. Has a better picture than my soon to be 4 year old
Panasonic plasma. For anyone looking for a good plasma, I highly
recommend the Samsung that he bought. And if you are hung up on the 720
vs 1080 thing, the 1080 is $650.00.
