Discussion:
Programming a Logitech Harmony One to control a LG NBN36 Sound Bar

I wonder if there is someone with a Harmony One who could give some
pointers on how to set this up. The Logitech site (for setup) doesn't
even list Sound Bars. I tried setting it up as a receiver, but that
didn't work very well (really, not at all). It works fine using the LG
remote, so it would seem that I could simply use the "learning" modes
to transfer the codes to do everything from the LG remote to the
Logitech, but when I tried, there wasn't enough options available.

If your sound bar is not in the database already, use the learning mode of the remote to add all the commands you need. (Essentially, you just point the remotes at each other and press each button, adding it to your configuration.)

I have a Logitech 650 remote. It runs/ran my Vizio sound bar just fine. I had
to retire the Vizio. It's too big for my new TV (see my previous post.)

If I recall correctly, since there were no sound bars listed, I used
"Amplifiers" as a choice.

I also have a Harmony One, but I replaced it with the 650 because I didn't like
the space the charger took up on the narrow end table I have next to the sofa.
Sure, I have to replace the batteries in the 650 periodically but it's a fair
trade off for two AA batteries.

So try the setup using using Amplifiers. And let me know if it works. After all
the questions I pose here, it'd be nice to know I actually helped someone.

Yes, after seeing that there was no option to select a soundbar, I did
try amplifier. That worked fairly well as I stumbled through the
process of transferring codes via IR to the Logitech. What surprised
me was that there were no options to transfer volume controls,
however, when it came to re-configuring buttons, there was an option
to use the "amplifier" volume up and down instead of the TV volume up
and down, ao I selected that, and somehow the Logitech knew what IR
codes to send! I was really surprised to find that volume control
worked perfectly!

So now my Logitech is probable 75% OK for controlling the soundbar. I
never did find any way to set up some of the special controls, like
amount of Subwoofer, which optical "in" to use, etc.... but once those
things are set using the soundbar remote, they shouldn't have to be
changed again, so the Logitech is really all I need.

Thanks for your suggestion!

Glad I could finally be on the helping end. I have found that these Logitech
remotes are great when they're working, but a real pain in the ass at times to
program. I was fearful that with my new TV being delivered yesterday I would
have to jump through hoops to get things working again, but I guess since I went
from a Sony TV to a new Sony TV, all the codes were the same and I didn't have
to touch anything... so far.

I just ordered a Sony sound bar. I hope I can get that to work with the
Logitech.

I know this is an old thread, so hopefully someone will reply. I just bought a Harmony 650 and used the setup for my Vizio soundbar s3820w-c0 and it just wont work on the soundbar. Also, I dont have an original remote, so i cant teach the new one! Any suggestions?

Well, it would have made better sense to start a new thread...

Two thoughts occur to me.

1. Just for testing, try moving some of the unprogrammed commands from
the command list on the right to odd buttons on the remote and see if
some of them work (and it makes me wonder if you tried all of the
programmed buttons, just to see if one or two of them work).

2. Find a cheap 4-in-1 or 5-in-1 one remote to see if its Vizio buttons
work. If so you could teach your Harmony from that one.

3 (of 2). Harmony programming is tricky, and you said you just got this
one. Are you sure you properly closed out the process by actually
*transferring* the new program to the remote?

Have you contacted them? They used to be pretty good at adding
devices when asked.
