TV tuner or AM/FM radio tuner. Most AM/FM "tuners" now seem to be also
amplifiers, and are commonly called receivers.... is taht what you
need or simply an AM/FM tuner? Whatever the case, you'll probably find
what you need on Amazon, then look at local electronics stores in Des
Moines for similar.

The formerly coupon-eligible HDTV converters for analog TVs perform
that function, at least for antenna reception, don't know about cable.
I saw one recently in a Radio Shack.

Windows 7 Media Center (but not 8) or Aver3D can record HDTV at full
resolution on a PC with a USB tuner. A 2 GHz Core 2 Duo laptop is fast
enough, a single core 2.4GHz Pentium running XP just barely worked for
me. 1080i fills about 6-7 GB of hard drive space per hour.

The USB tuners can capture a VCR's output to the hard drive. 7MC's
copy protection rejects commercial tapes but I haven't had trouble
with tapes I recorded.
